Why use it if you can live without it? I rather modulate the throttle.

The DTC helps me keeping the driving style tidy. And it reacts very quickly if I hit an icy patch in a corner, so it can help me save the car. In earlier generations, the DSC was too slow. When driving an E90, I will switch the DSC completely off, as it tends to overcompensate when it reacts on top of my own reflexes. The system of me + DSC ends up being dangerous. In the F20, it feels safe. If I react correctly, the car will not do much. If helps me instead of fighting me. |

I can also driver faster with DSC Off. But DSC does more than correcting wheelspin. If you get in an understeer situation, it will help you to rotate the car as well.

And I have to say that the electronic differential brake feature that kicks in when DSC if disabled, adds to the fun. I kind of like the automatic rev matching as well, along with ABS brakes. Some of the electronic aids are nice! |

When I drove the M4 and M2 recently, they were set by BMW to Sport so moved around a bit and made you feel like a hero but certainly the M4's DTC light did flash now and then. I often drive with DTC off. I'm suprised at how much more transparent the feedback through the chassis is and how much better the traction, both launching and out of corners. In the dry, it's great fun, and does function as a slightly cumbersome LSD. In the wet, on public roads, and at high speeds, DTC is firmly on.

I would also prefer to drive DSC Off in that situation, and I doubt that I would be slower with it off. I competed in autoX for many years, and got comfortable steering the cars mostly with the pedals. If the course is really tight, you need to let the rear end of the car dance around the cones, which the DTC/DSC will not allow.

Having owned one, I really doubt that S3 is stock. That said, it seems the speed limiter is still in place, which is unusual for a tuned car.

I miss driving on the A2 Autobahn with my 535d back in the days. Used to yearly make around 20.000km only on the A2.
German Autobahn, love it And even though there's always this one asshole, usually the respect and communication between the fast drivers on the German unlimited autobahns is awesome Getting nostalgic watching this old picture |
