Best UK model (besides the M135i)!?
As the title says!...
I own an F30 320d but starting to reconsider my choice, not sure a saloon is right for me. I only travel 10k miles per year, with the odd long trip from Yorkshire to Scotland (can easily cover 800miles over that trip!) I want performance but some economy! My 320d is only returning 38mpg at present I was expecting high 40's at least! What options are a must have on the 1? Thanks in advance |

Hi, i have a 125i auto but if you are after an oil burner my friend has a 125d that is very nice to drive and very good on fuel on long trips, i would recommend you try one.

Their is not a great deal of difference between petrol and diesel these days and the car of choice for me is the 116i M Sport. I've driven a lot of the latest BMW cars and just enjoy the go cart feel driving the 116i. The options I have added is all the lights options as well M Sport. You'll have to demo the car.

I understand the new face lift 118i was the 116i and the old 118i is now a 120i.
Our diesel is cheaper than England to run a BMW on in NZ, but we all like petrol cars as they run nice and don't sound like a tractors. Diesel cars are hard to sell second hand and the purity of petrol cars over diesel is just better.

The 1 series is very cramped- especially the footwell, the pedals are too close! I would stick to the F30 or at the very least go for an auto

You need a Coupe then, F30 is boring and MPG watching takes the pleasure from driving. Recently voted No. 1 car for driving pleasure by Consumer Report.

Get a hatch - so amazingly practical. With a tune you can get ~220hp even with the 114i.

It is a known fact BMW heavily discount their cars including the 1 series so I am not sure what you're saying about VWs discounts... You can easily get 20% off an F30, does that make it a bad car too?

What is it you don't like about the F20? I would take one over the F10 any day of the week. The Golf seems like a decent car as well, but if I had to go with FWD, I would prefer a Mini.

The F20 does drive better than the Golf and is more refined but i find the car too cramped and lacking in interior quality. The pedals in the F20 are too close together but this seems to be a UK/right-handside drive problem more than anything.

Yes, there is plenty of room around the pedals in the LHD F20. It even comes with a dead pedal, which the RHD version doesn't. The interior quality is the same as in the F30, and a good step up from the previous generation 1 series.

I also don't really find the interior quality of the F30 any more convincing than the F20 - the 5er is certainly a step up from there.

Dont think you will find anyone agreeing with you in here - would be kind of weird if you did actually. The ONLY quality issues I have with mine was sqeeky door seals (solved) + the plastic behind the handle you pull the door shut with overlaps the alu and has a sharp edge + my navi screen and instrument housing is sqeeking until it "settles" the first few km (I usually pull it a bit myself to make it settle faster). Anyway - you enjoy your F10 and we LOVE our F20's. Everyone is happy As ovekvam ...I would not exchange my F20 for a F10 - love that mini wagon practicality, sporty drive and compact size too much.
