The options you wish you chose
I have had my BMW since September 2012 and for me it was first step on the BMW owners ladder. Obviously once you have something you start wanting the next best thing; so it goes without saying I look back and wonder if I should have gambled at the more expensive, bigger engined variants I now know I could have afforded (hindsight, eh). Nevertheless I love my car
However, there are small little extras that being sensible we decide we want but can live without... and then a week after delivery wish we'd added when ordering the car. I ordered an F21 116D M Sport with the following options:
And I wish I had added:
What are yours?

I've been through about 9 BMWs over the years so made the mistakes on spec choices to know now what I want or feel I need. So not regrets this time round at all, but then again the 335d has about 10k of extras on it so really shouldn't have any regrets!

I don't miss black panel, and I am glad I picked DAB radio. The only thing I sometimes miss, is the feature that reads the speed limit. I haven't looked into what it costs.

I'm going over and over this at the moment and my car hasn't even arrived yet!! I was a bit restricted as it's a company car so couldn't flex my budget!
Ended up ordering a 125d M Sport in Estoril Blue and just had enough room for the HK HiFi. |

I wish for 118i to be able to choose the optional faster steering rack like the M135i.
I wish for the box that never existed the LSD (<-- yes it will never happen or there's Quafe, but still~) |

Sunroof
Comfort Access (this no key slot and having to have a loose key fob floating around is an annoying half ass-ed job. May as well have bought the whole thing and had full useful functions too) |

As an owner of an F20 Estoril Blue M-Sport with Plus Pack I feel I got all the main options I wanted.
The bits that really make the car special are HK Stereo and Blue Sport Calipers. Ideal car would have been the 125D but couldn't justify the extra £50 a month company car tax for extra 30hp. During test drive the 120D felt every bit as quick. |

Our F20 has a dedicated slot for the key fob under the climate panel.

I have one of those too but without the full Comfort Access package I think its a waste of time and would prefer a socket the grabs the key like in my E82 near the stop start button. |

But the old style turn key ignition is still more intuitive to me than the start button. I sometimes start the engine again when I just want to silence the radio. And I can not lean into the car to start the engine while clearing the windows from ice. I have to sit inside and step on the clutch pedal. |

Mid specced ours and so far, nothing. Only on 550 miles.
I don't get "fully loading" an already well specced car that is known for it's great VFM. Especially heavy options. |

I somewhat regret not getting Bluetooth Professional and Speed Limit Information. If I bought my car today, I would probably have ticked those boxes. If I however had to give something up to get these two options, then I probably would have kept my car as it is.
Comfort Access was on my list until I found out Keyless Go was standard. I usually open one of the rear doors or the hatch first, so it wouldn't have been much use to me. |

Can't start a new thread since I'm a new user.. Anyway -
which one would you suggest for a true petrolhead, a 120d automatic with some options (radio professional, sport seats) or a 118i manual with M sport package and almost no options? The price is more or less the same. I was thinking about the 118i but there're so many positive responses about 120d and 8-speed automatic so I'm really in doubt now. Unfortunately can't afford both 120d auto AND M package. And my main concern re: diesel is I mostly do very short trips. Unfortunately local dealers don't have any of 1-series available for test drive. Any thoughts are welcome! |
