Really pleased with the consumtion of my 116d. Average over 7000km with a heavy foot is 5.7l/100km (41 mpg).
My record is driving from Geilo to Oslo at 3.5l/100km (67 mpg). Geilo is 800m higher up than Oslo, but I think itīs still a very good number |

Have you measured real life consumption by calculating the consumption from the distance traveled and the number of litres of gas filled? Somehow BMW diesels tend to be a bit higher on real life consumption than the number shown on the journey computer, but BMW petrols are quite on spot (I measured 0,2 l/100km higher real life consumption on my 116i, which isn't very much).

A great topic! These are mine observations with F20 116i, 50.000 km:
7.0ą0.5l/100km (ca 33 MPG) - economy driving 8.0ą0.5l/100km (ca 29 MPG) - normal driving 9.0ą0.5l/100km (ca 26 MPG) - now, that's my car! I don't like to think too much about the economy while driving and it shows 8.5l/100 km (ca 27 MPG). Not bad considering I do have fun. I drive 25% city and 75% outside, always on Sport unless the winter conditions force me to use Comfort or Eco Pro (which makes me a sad panda). |

My F21 116D was (is) advertised as 68MPG combined but God knows how they came up with that figure. I average 56MPG per tank of fuel and almost always drive in eco-pro mode...
...almost ...but when I do make the effort to drive economically 56MPG is about the best I'm averaging per tank (usually a little over 500 miles). Last edited by matthewcornish; 01-18-2014 at 03:00 PM.. |

My 125i just past 3000km mark. Managed to get 7.8L per 100km. Mixture of highway and city drive. Quite happy so far. But not close enough to the brochure saying 6 L.

No wind resistance A driver with the build of a professional jockey Minimal fuel load required All possible weight shed from the car etc etc. They will never bear any resemblance to real world figures unless you reset the OBD and roll downhill with a following wind. (Actually that will get you a display of 99mpg) My old E46 had 2 cons meters with cons2 being the lifetime consumption that wasn't reset like the cons 1 - if the current cars have the same, maybe hidden then that is what tells the true story. My 120d seems to get around 43 average just doing short journeys on A and B roads driving normally in comfort mode and returns 56 to 58 mpg on a motorway trip from Lincolnshire to Hexham Northumberland about 180 miles run.

11.4l/100km average on my M135i/8AT, with aircon permanently on (does this make a difference anymore?) after 1,500km of 90% suburban driving. Drops after a freeway run and rises again back in the burbs.
Could be better, but it has been falling. Earlier figures were around 12l/100km. Must just be a tight driveline. |

I guess the influence from the A/C depends on how warm it is. On really warm days, it will probably draw enough power to make a small impact on your consumption figures, otherwise not.

A/C seems pretty efficient, actually. I did one of my regular 600k day trips last week, with external temps in the high 30's/low 40's (C), A/C on all the way, and fuel consumption was 7.2L/100k, not that much different to the same trip in mid-July last year, where consumption was 7.01L/100k. No A/C then; ambients were 8-20C.

I've done 8k in my 118d since picking mine up at the end of September and I'm not seeing anywhere near the claimed mpg. I'm still happy with what I'm averaging though, 54.85 mpg actual through logging every fill up in 'road trip' app on my phone

Also noticed that the auto-stop tends to wait a little bit longer before cutting the engine. Previously the cut would happen exactly as the wheels stopped turning, resulting in a slightly jerky stop as the suspension unloaded. Now it waits about half to one second, allowing me to ease off the brake more smoothly. |
