Why run-flats on everything? Hideous, nasty, 'orrible tyres! Even worse for winter

Visualising a Winter puncture scenario, would I be happier noting the alarm from the TPC and continuing my journey then getting a runflat replaced as it's probably knackered.
Or Stop, get out into probably crappy weather to stuff the gunk into the affected tyre then reinflate and roll to hopefully get a seal then jumping back into the car cold and wet. Finishing the journey and getting the probably knackered tyre replaced along with a new can of gunk ready for the next time. I'm afraid I do find myself leaning towards the first scenario as a preference if I must suffer a puncture during Winter.

Then I had to trust in 18" wheels with runflats 245/40 and expected the ride to be shocking and to be fair it did seem firm but I have got used to it. We are unlikely to ever see proper spare wheels again eventually no matter what we drive so you may want to give them a go at some point. I'd still prefer proper spares and the more compliant ride of pneumatics but I'm also a realist lol.

But that was 4-5 years ago, so maybe they have improved them. But for winters I'll only trust non-RFTs to give me the best grip. I'm hoping winters is on the way out when I pick up my car

My winters are runflats and have been on the car for weeks but not a flake of snow has fallen here.

I now run Pirelli Ice & Snow winters on the QQ and Snow Control Seris 3 on the A500 (traded on Sat just gone) - odd size tyreson both cars, these were the best options available. Both these sets of winters are great in the snow and slush and proper wet, cold roads but not as good as summers in the damp, dry [cold] or greasy conditions. Plus, they don't really come into their own unless the temp is close to zero or below. To that end, the QQ is still running summers (Premium Contact 3s). I'm a fan of winters, but some tyres are better suited to UK winters than others, eg Dunlops for me as they cover more conditions and a wider range of temps.

One of the cars I imported from Germany had Dunlop Wintersport 3D tyres. I briefly tested them on ice and snow, and concluded that they were summer tyres. Hardly any grip at all. Quickly replaced them with real winter tyres (I think it was Conti VikingContact or Gislaved SoftFrost back then). Now I stick to Michelin X-Ice Xi3.

I have Dezent RE rims in 7x17 and 205/50R17 V tires (Nokian WR A3) on my M135i. Picture to follow. I am quite happy with the tires, much better than I would have expected.

I started with Style 379 with Brdgestone Blizzak 205/50/17
Not a fan of OEM wheels so decided to use them for winter instead with Falken HS439 225/40/18 winter tyres all round Then decided that why compromise on a look I'm not happy with just because it's winter and got a set of OZ Ultraleggera 18x8" ET40 (same tyres as above) for winter use Then I managed to get a set of one of my all time classic favorite wheels (no longer made) AC Schnitzer Type 3 18x8.5" ET43 (ET38 with 5mm spacer to clear brakes) which I'm now settled on for winter use (same tyres as above) Long winded winter wheel selection but got there in the end
