M135i options, their weight, and impact on performance..
Hi all M135i owners...
What is everyones included options? And what weight do ppl think is added by each option, and how does this impact on performance, inc. 0-100, etc? I've got a lot of options...worried its going to impact performance. J |

Heated adjustable seats will add a fair bit of weight and maybe the auto gearbox over the manual. 5 door should be heavier than a three door.
I couldn't give a dam about 0-60 times as I don't do 0-60's. For me extra weight will be more of an issue for handling. |

Seriously, even if you add 50 Kg of options, that represents 3% extra in the total weight (1500 Kg).
You would need to be a professional track driver to notice the difference. When we're talking 4WD, yes, that's 90 Kg extra compared to 2WD, mostly at the front, so this could have some impact on the balance. But not on the 0-60 time, due to added traction. If you're concerned about weight, loose 20 Kg yourself ? |

If you want to notice lost weight, get lightweight wheels og drivetrain parts (flywheel). That makes quite a difference to how the car feels. Last edited by ovekvam; 06-20-2013 at 12:38 AM.. |

Sunroof is a typical thing to avoid for drivers with sporty ambitions. It adds quite a lot of weight to the top of the car, and takes away helmet room.

A lightened flywheel has absolutely nothing to do with the cars handling dynamics. It's all to do with engine response time.

Seriously, if you do take your pride and joy out onto the track, most people will be happy at whatever track times they do, and be even happier if they can improve the time on each run throughout the day. These cars are quick enough for some serious 'fun' on a race track even with a bit of 'fat' added. This is your everyday car, enjoy all the goodies (even a sunroof) on the road and accept that it has a bit of 'fat' on it when you take it to the track. If you want to race, and are concerned about the weight, times etc, buy a proper racing car |

if you are concerning about the weight
avoid sunroof, replace whatever seat you have with the racing ones, rip the rear seats out, rip all sound proofing materials (they are surprisingly heavy) the only option that weights significant should be the sunroof and electric seats, otherwise those audio system and stuff dont really weight much can you feel 50kg? yea sure you can, try kicking your wife outta the car and see if you can feel that, I mean like in terms of handling of course if you wanna feel the weight loss, get lightweight(and smaller) wheels and brakes, those are obvious as for flywheel and clutch, they are obvious in terms of dynamics (get the lightweight pulley as well, they can be very obvious) dont be tricked into carbon fiber hoods and stuff, unless the whole car is in carbon fiber, one panel alone wont change much, its easier if you loss 10kg in the gym if you are talking about 0-100km, I dont think the 20-30kg you save from the sunroof will change much on a 300hp+ car |

It is just a matter of definition. A lighter flywheel will change the way the car reacts to driver inputs in a noticeble way. It allows you to change gears faster, and it pretty much takes away the need to use heel and toe when braking for corners. It will also make the car slightly quicker in the lowest gears.

That is not my experience. I have not measured any reduction in torque when I have gone for lighter flywheels. The engine has less momentum at idle, which makes it easier to stall, but you get used to compensate for that after a day or two. There is also slightly more rattle with a lightweight flywheel.
