Window Tinting and Paint Protection (Australia)
Hi guys,
My car is due to arrive in early June. I have been quoted by my dealer for window tinting and paint/interior protection for a ridiculous $3700. Whereas tint a car quoted me just $2000. Is the BMW products any superior to the companies outside to be charging such a premium price? I was also quoted $2700 for the BMW insurance which to me is rubbish as well Anyone in Australia have recommendations for insurance companies and window tinting/paint/interior protection companies worth using? I am Brisbane Thanks |

Don't bother with the paint protection! Buy the Nanolex treatment and do it yourself. I cannot believe how much they are quoting you for window tint! Tell them its a rip off! Window tint should not cost more than $600 bucks. As far as the insurance is concerned, that depends on age and driving record. If you have a good record and over the age of 35 you should be paying around $1700.00 full comprehensive with replacement vehicle if the car is a right off due to an accident through BMW insurance.

I did not go for the paint protection as it was ridiculously expensive and there are several very good paint protection products that you can use to keep your cars paint in top condition.
After I collected it from the dealer, I got my car professionally cleaned, polished and waxed. It was around $400.00. My paintworks still looks great. I got the windows tinted by a professional window tint guy here in Brisbane (near to) for under $400.00 |

Good grief -- some rip-off prices being quoted to you, kenji!
First, tinting -- this was arranged by my dealer before delivery, and cost me $299! As Active says, don't bother with paint protection. Get someone like Waxit Car Care to CQuartz or Nanolex it, if you don't wish to do so yourself. Insurance. Depends on age/risk, and I think BMW Insurance will be quoting you a full replacement. Other companies do that, too. I'm with NRMA, and that costs me under $1,200 -- but I'm old and have a full ncb |

Thanks guys for the info. When I got the quote through email I was not impressed.
I've been speaking to a professional car dealer that quoted me $700 for inside and outside protection with Opti-Guard. Anyone have any comment on the product over Nanolex or CQuartz? |

For the insurance, I'm with Allianz as they were the cheapest and after the first year, give you free roadside assistance!
Window tinting, I paid $250 for the whole car! And that was for 20% transparency. Didn't bother with the dealer paint protection (couldn't justify paying like $2500 for something that was only going to last 12 Months!) so I just do it the old fashioned way; wash once a week, wax every fortnight and polish every three months and my car still looks brand new! also, I know you can get the fabric/carpet impregnating stuff from BMW which is like scotch guard for your interior.

Yes. He does know his stuff. He understands car enthusiasts, as a car enthusiast himself. The car looked better than the day it was picked up.
