I asked my dealer about map upgrades and he said they'll update it if there's one available during the service - not sure how much truth there is in that though. My very short play with it revealed that yes, there are spoken street names, not sure about lane guidance though.
I know that in France camera warning devices are illegal so I guess that's why it's been left out, can't be long until all of Europe is the same. You can option in the speed limit camera if you want to know the limit for the road you're on. It's expensive but it's bloody lovely to use, and the voice commands seem to pick up what you say pretty well so far. |

TomTom works well in front of the gearlever despite lying on its speaker. Route claculation very quick but the traffic takes a few seconds. Extra cable ordered (Amazon) so there's one at home for the upgrades & one tucked neatly under the trim in the car.

Thanks for the replys, theotherjohn is yours the 5 inch screen version? Thinking of getting the Tomtom 1005 which come with free life time maps and three year live fees for £199 from Halfords which seems a good price. Anybody got any feed back on the Tomtom live setup please, is it worth the money?

Alternatively it could work out cheaper to use the tomtom app for your smartphone & get a vent mounted solution such as tetrax.

Hi airblade550, is this something you made yourself? Looks like you use a drinking canister of some kind as the base but what did you mount on top to make the suction cup attatch to?
Thanks!

I was considering the same solution, but the Tomtom would get in conflict with my knee if I use the drink holder closest to the driver. The other drink holder is occupied with a special holder for the key and the garage port opener. It is not possible to swap them, as the holes are asymmetric. |
