Would you be annoyed if your car had been repainted before it was delivered?
I just had a paint technician come to my house to fix the front bumper of my F20 after someone hit it and drove off. When he was leaving he glanced at the car, stopped, examined the roof and said "the roof on this car has been repainted". He showed me how the back half of the roof has more orange peel than the front.
He says that BMW must have resprayed the back half of the roof before delivery (I bought the car new). Would you be annoyed at this? It drives fine, I just wonder what else they did to it before they gave it to me.

Firstly, I would get a second opinion from an official BMW service techinician. If that's the case, I would send an official letter to BMW UK or BMW AG, explaining and asking for a compensation.

Actually it's pretty normal for cars to have paint repairs before delivery, to fix damage during manufacturing, transport and dealer prep...
Unless it wasn't done well I wouldn't care.

Yes it's quite common for this to happen, I'd say even more than 10%
It sucks but considering how these cars are transported from the factory it's hardly surprising One word though, if it has had a respray then it's most likely that the front of the roof has been sprayed than the rear. It's really hard to replicate orange peel painting a car normally. BMWs are notorious for orange peel because of the way BMW prep and paint their cars. If your local bodyshop spray any part of your car you'll notice that there is hardly any orange peel left on the part they've painted. I know as I've had the rear bumper and drivers rear 1/4 painted - it's the only bit of paint on the entire car that doesn't have orange peel! |

the paint finish on BMWs resembles that of the skin of an orange... go outside and look at your car.
it's been like it for years and years

Thanks all. The paint guy said that the job was well done and it looks fine so I guess I will leave it be. Didn't realise how high a percentage of new cars had to be resprayed!
