Believe it or not I think it offers the greatest value considering performance, luxury, and maintenance. That and the Bangle design.

first started liking bmw when i saw the e31...had my eye on that car since day one...I had always wanted to drive it but never got to...never really thought I could save up for a bmw so I was going to settle for a altima(used) until my dad saw that I really wanted a bmw...so he took my money and added a good amount and surprised me with one for christmas
BMW FTW...BMW man till I die(or can afford a lambo or ferrari)

^ I dunno, if I could afford a lambo or ferrari, or even a Porsche, I just don't know that I would buy one...
BMW seems to be excellent "bang for the buck" in my opinion, I'd probably just keep driving BMW's and take more trips, buy a bigger house or put it away for retirement.

WOW!! This is really great.
I didn't think my post would get this many replies so quickly, and better yet, make the home page. This is very very cool. Thank you all for sharing all your great stories. Me, I would like to add a little more to my BMW history. Although I didn't get to own one up until now, I did get to ride and drive a few and so that kept my hunger alive throughout the years. My good friend's dad had a 1978 E12 530i and I got to ride and drive it a couple of times during my senior highschool and early college days, back in the late 80's and early 90's. It had some decent pickup, but I always loved that unique hum of the engine and the solid ride. Then in the summer of 1996, my good friend got himself a new red E36 M3 coupe that looked a lot like the one in the photo below, although, his had a spoiler. After driving it a few times, it really got me in love with BMWs. It was manual, very fast, and sick. One weekend, we were at a friend's wedding and my friend got little liquored up at the reception and so he handed me the keys and let me drive it home. I drove it across Florida from the East coast (Melbourne) to the West coast (Tampa) and I loved driving every mile of that trip. It was such a sweet ride and it passed traffic on those little 2-lane roads with so much ease. After that, I knew that the day would come when I would be a proud owner. Thanks again and keep those great stories coming. JT

never had a bmw b4 and niether did my parents...always liked the styling over the other German cars. When the Twin Turbo N54 came out, I knew right away that this was the car for me!

BMW motorcycles were my introduction. After switching from Kawasaki motorcycles to a K75, R1100S and now my K1200RS, I knew that I'd not drive a BMW car until I could afford exactly the one I wanted. Took euro delivery of my 2010 135i in October and absolutely love it! It's like a BMW motorcycle on four wheels. I had considered the Audi A3 and A4 as well as a Passat CC, but BMW truly offers 'Freude am Fahren'

I spent my HS years in Germany and fell in love with them. Ordered an Audi A3 from the factory. While waiting for it my wife was looking to buy an X5 so I test drove BMWs for fun. Audi came in, dealer jacked up the price 4K, I got my deposite back, went straight to BMW, the rest is history. Even thought the dealer was a jack a$$, it worked out in my favor cause I didn't want the A3 after driving my 328i.

when i was in the army (we have to go 2 years here) and i was a guard every morning a black e36 coupe a silver e36 saloon and a dark grey e30 passed from there.. that made me get a bmw in the first place (that was in 1998). managed to get my first in 2007!! crashing one and surviving without a scratch makes me wanna get another one.

My first was a 1999 323i Sport package III 5MT in Titanium silver. We have video of me leaving the dealership with a grin that you could not wipe off my face. At the end of the day it always seems I go back to BMW. Combine the MT with amazing handling, the best inline 6 in the industry and the efficiency of how everything seems to fit together is a pleasure. I do wish reliability and dealer experience was better though.

A good friend let me borrow his new 1976 2002 many times. It was way more fun than any of the American cars that I owned. I had to have one, but couldn't afford a nearly new one. Bought a 1973 2002 in 1979, and joined the BMWCCA. Been driving them since.

When I first went to Road Atlanta for the Camel GT races in April 1976, the first race car I saw was Peter Gregg screaming under the bridge and down the hill in a BMW 3.0CSL, I was hooked. A friend got a 1977 320i which I loved driving. Was not able to afford my own until 1996 when I bought the new Z3 1.9. Since then have had 1997 Z3 6cyl, 1998 E36 M3, 2000 M Roadster, 2002 E46 M3, 2007 X5 3.0Si and currently have 2008 M3 and 2010 X5 diesel. Next purchase will probably be the Z4 35is. Love the way they drive!

A friend let me drive his '04 E46 325i.
Fast forward two years Driving from OKC through Dallas in December '06...tired of wrestling a Xterra all over the road in high wind. 1 hour later I had my new E90.

My love for BMW's all started when I was in high school in the early 80's there were a lot of students driving "hand me down" 2002's. I thought that was the oddest and yet coolest car I had ever seen. Then one of my friends got a 525i and I was always riding around with him in it. I loved that car.
Now that I am all grow'd up and married, my wife knew of my long time obsession with BMW's therefore she suggested I buy one, so my first BMW was a 2006 330Cic which I loved. I had it for about a year and a half and then bought my wife a BMW X-3 , next I bought a Mini Cooper S, which I still kick myself for selling, and now currently my 135i, which reminds me of why I like BMWs. I hope BMW never forgets their roots; I know I never will.

when i was around 6 or 7 i had a 1:16 replica of an 850i.... at the time even tho i had replicas of lambos and ferraris something about the BMWs style just caught my eye and i fell in love... when time came to get a car i look far into the 8 series and was merely an inch away from buying one till i realized im gonna need a daily driver and that a 15-20 year old v12 might cause some problems... so i got an AW e90 335i, and all i can say my balls didnt drop till i drove that car lol

Wow, JT, made it to the home page, huh?! lol. Good post man. Someone mentioned 90's Rap songs got them into Bimmers, that's some funny stuff! Biggie still sticks in my head with the Hyptontize lyrics 'Dare I squeeze three at your cherry M-3'. Oah, the good days of hip-hop
I have been a semi-regular on Roadfly.org back in the day, bimmerforums and a few local boards, so I guess I'll join in here too What got me into BMW's is my cousins E34 M5. That was the first BMW that I was ever in & after a few 100+mph rides in it, I was hooked. A few years later I purchased that same M5 from my cousin, this was my 2nd car. The 91' M5 was incredible, but it also was an incredible maintainance hog. It cost me $1k a month to keep that car on the road. After a year & a half I was up with it, I needed something newer and reliable. That's when I got my 2000' Estoril M Coupe, daily drove it for 3 months & then got a beater to keep the M Coupe as a garage queen/weekend car. Since then it's been history... 6 BMW's, 5 of them M cars, and another member of the BMW family a Mini S. Of those we still own 3 of them including the new M Coupe. The future holds many more fun filled miles, racing, & new M models for us! |

Thank you very much!
Yeah. I'm amazed at all the responses. This is the first time that one of my posts has ever made the main page of any forum I'm a member of. It's been really cool reading all these great stories and more just keep on coming. Scorpion suggested I take a screen shot as proof, so I did. This shot was taken a few hours ago when it had 120 comments. Earlier, it was on top of the main page as the featured post. Hopefully, this thread will continue on forever. JT

as funny as it sounds, I was a huge James Bond fan, and I fell in love with the Z8 from the World is not Enough, and then subsequent video games. BMW's have been my wallpaper on my computer ever since, mixed in with the occasional dream p-cars and lambos
When it came time to buy my own car, and get out of the pick up truck my dad let me drive, a BMW was the only way to go for me.
