Took the oil pan out and found problems... Guess it's time for a new engine.

I found same color trunk lid that looks really nice condition and seller says it's rust free. Very good find for 120bucks.
I will get the engine this weekend. |

Not much have happened. Engine is somewhat stripped down and somewhat clean. Tried to change valve stem seals with compressed air but pretty much all cylinders had one or two valves leaking because of carbon build up. So it was nada. Now engine is at my home garage on engine stand. Gotta try the rope trick for valve stems. And order all the parts to get it ready for the swap.
I'm having hard time finding E38 728i m52 oil dip stick tube which should perfect for this. New one costs a bit too much for my taste. Back on the road summer 2199? Been fixing E65 lately. First starter broke down and now electric fan. Without it ac did not work. So money that was itended for this when't in to "dailies" Last edited by zener; 07-26-2024 at 05:14 PM.. |

Valve stem seals replaced on the B28. Next step is to do the rod bearings. Then put new timing guides in and timing cover with new gaskets back on. Then it is pretty much ready to start swapping the engine as many parts are needed from the old engine so cant really do more for B28. I will also use cam trays and new lifters from M50. So... let's turn it around. Last edited by zener; 09-22-2024 at 10:34 AM.. |

Trying to get this project going this summer. I took out the main bearings from upcoming engine. They look fine apart of two that has some more wear. So new one in order.
Also ordered F30 335i front brakes (someday have to do something about rear brakes too, easiest would be 540i rear brakes but they are hard to find and expensive) and Alpina Classic 18" replica wheels. 235/40R18 front and 265/35R18 rear. Currently working on my friends E32 750iL to change engine, after that hopefully it's time to do this one. |

It also seems that you can run 540i brake discs in rear with e8x/e9x (smaller engine versions have 300x20 discs) rear calipers. Bolt holes need minor modification.
You can get those calipers new with carrier for 25bucks, so much much cheaper than E34 540i calipers. So it will get 300x20 discs rear. |
