From July or a little later, certain models will be getting a touch pad on the idrive controller, introduced with new X5 and filtering down. |

So I missed this by 6 weeks. Man I'm very angry. I hope some of these can be retrofitted or updated remotely or by the dealer
This is getting ridiculous. Even Microsoft don't update this frequently. Grrrrr |

I'm a little bit disappointed with BMW for these constant upgrades. I can understand that they have to fight against their competitors, but they could have thought about these upgrades before launching a model, not during the life of the model. First, the iDrive hardware, then the iDrive Touch Controller, then the Launch Control, idle coasting, etc. If I had bought the car six months later I will have had more (and better) for the same amount of money. I can handle a facelift in 2-3 years form launch that brings all these changes, but not these constant upgrades. Another example: Why didn't they offer the M-Performance exhaust as an option like Sport-auto box? Those are things I will never understand about car brands...
The car is impressive, I'm really happy with it, but for me, BMW as a brand, took one or two steps back . Hope they will fix some of these features with a software update. |

I think that they always do changes every july year after year because there is a break period and they modify the machines .. it's what i've been told by my dealer.
And yes this is very very annoying .. but on the other side, we are happy that they upgrade fast their model and make not us wait for 7 years to have new toys .. |

If I owned the car for a year an they upgraded i wouldn't have a problem. Mines due for delivery in 2/3 weeks, so I'm too late to delay the order and too late for the upgrades Ggggrrrrr.

If you think of "parts" of the car as a separate entity, then I drive was due an upgrade.
8 speed auto box was available in the new five series 3 years ago so it's a natural product development to add lunch and sailing, it fits in with its lifespan. You still have a new 1er but whenever you buy a car different parts are being upgraded and old outdated all of the time. |

They should make these updates more modular so yu don't have to replace the whole car to upgrade the iDrive or its OS.
I wouldn't replace a brand new PC I have just got with another one just to get a bigger hard disk. Why should this be any different, especially given the increasing frequency at which this stuff is changing. |

I think it is a good thing that they constantly improve the features and quality of the current cars. After all, they are not making our existing cars worse. We knew what we traded money for, and we got what we ordered. There will always be something better in the future.
By the way, there are no upgrades coming up that I miss in our car. It is fine as it is. |

I like it too (in M-Sport clothes), and so do most people I know. The percentage seems to be different from market to market. Seems like the design is rather popular in Scandinavia, but not so much in UK and USA.
