Sometimes the government guys even surf around in car forums and see which cars they should for illegal upgrades next MOT. BMW will also know if the engine management is tampered with, and they will deny warranty unless it is an official BMW product. |

The only thing that has kept me from getting the Power Kit for my 120d, is that it is so expensive here in Norway. It's a lot cheaper in Germany, but it's a long drive (about 1100 km each way). |

Another main issue is how this is considered by the insurance companies in case of accident....

M performance Power Kit for 125i
TBH I personally think that it’s a complete rip off. I would have to pay around 1,200euro to receive the additional 20hp which is the original power of the engine? Is BMW scared that it will be faster than the 328i so they made it at the same power lvl? WTF? So what are they going to offer for the 328i? and how they are going to separate it from our engines? I’m really disappointed about this, I thought that the M chip would bring out the true potential of the engine – and not limit it again.

Where did you find this document?
Also I don't think its the 328i they are worried about treading on its M135i. They claim that the modest 20hp increase has dropped the 0-60 by 0.5 secs (I'm sure most of that is due to the torque increase). The M135i is just over a second faster to 60mph than the standard 125i. Give it 40-50hp more with the weight difference to the M135i and it will be performing the same. And the same way the Eco Pro mode has those blue "saved km" figures, the new DSC Off mode could have oil temperature in the display. Not so much to ask for, is it? |

Yes I noticed that but don't believe that the engine tuning would make that much of a difference alone.

Using the document supplied by Subnasty I door stepped/emailed my dealers parts dept and they came back with some prices!
I'm in the UK so bear that in mind. The kit itself £750 +VAT Labour to fit and code £217.50 +VAT What they also said, because my car was manufactured within a month of the new ECU introduction they will need to stick it on a diagnostic machine to determine what type I have... £43.50 +VAT Only in stock in Germany so 7-10 days to get to the dealer and payment upfront and non returnable. Mmmmmmmmm *VAT @ 20% |

Yep, considering the document I have states that labour will be 0.5hrs for the older ECU and 0.25hrs for the newer (that doesnt include coding) that's a hell of a charge to leave a laptop on my seat!
I was mythed by the diagnostics for my ECU as well, I gave them my VIN. It's all going in my return email! |

I am sure that the true increase is much higher than 20hp....as with most BMW Performance tunes...it is all about Marketing.

The latest specs from BMW Australia state the 125i does 0-100 in 6.1
I wonder if that is as a result of launch control or something else has changed - what will it do to the time on this version - heading closer to mid 5sec there |

So I have to wonder what the differences between the *25i and *28i engine are to begin with? Is it strictly the ECU, or are there other differences such as exhaust? If just ECU, you have to wonder why the PPK didn't go the full way to 245 PS or whatever the exact specs of the *28i engine are. I suppose it all boils down to marketing. Dyno test may show that power is equal to a 328i (or 228i, once they are available).
