Response from UK dealer
I have my order in for an M135i and was also excited by these upgrades. I placed the order on April 19th so expected to be on the borderline for the upgrades, and heard the following response from the dealer
" I have heard back from the product team and they have confirmed that both items have not been confirmed for the UK market. The they think that the sail function will not come due to UK legislation and the launch control may eventually come but there is no conformation to date. " Which is obviously different to what others have heard, and I know the Passat comes with coasting function already in the UK, so its strange that legislation would stop BMW... |

Don't worry though, having 8 gears means first is really low and off the line acceleration is crisp enough without tc. Cheers Lee |

I guess no sail function is of a safety concern, but manual drivers do it all the time popping in neutral..... Just sounds strange.

The important thing is to stay off the brakes if you want to save fuel, as they only turn your energy into wasted heat. And what is the danger of coasting? What trouble can it get you into? |

Probably no real danger to an experienced driver, but --because people tend to do it down hill -- an inexperienced drive can find themselves going into a corner with no drive, braking in the wrong place, and losing control of an unstable car.
That said, I'm sure the modern systems have various electronic interventions to prevent this, especially for automatic/DSG equipped cars. |

But with an F20, it should be safe. |

VAG also has an annoying feature that cancels your throttle input when you touch the brake pedal, making it impossible to use both pedals at once. That would have been very useful, particularly on the FWD cars, to balance out the understeer.
The car does not always know what is best for the driver. |

In todays market mpg and CO2 levels sell cars, at least the coasting functions are active in eco modes only. Cheers Lee |

Not aure touch is a great idea for RHD cars unless you are naturally left handed. I imagine its going to be very distracting trying to write with your left hand.

Wouldn't mind the launch control though even though it's extremely unlikely I would ever use it.
Checked my spec sheet using the VIN and there is definitely no specific code I could find for it. |
