F30 style M steering wheel install on F20?
A big Hi to the forum. I am new here and i'm in the process of ordering my new 118i.
I like very much the new M steeing wheel that can be ordered for new F30. I wonder, is it possible to order it or install it later on F20? I guess it can also fix the instrument view problem? |

Looks interesting, I've not seen that style before.
I should imagine the answer from BMW is "Nein", but I'm sure it could probably be retrofitted |

There is an M style steering wheel already for the F20. I'm not sure if it can be retro-fitted.

Retro-Inspired 'M' steering wheel different from M-Sport steering wheels
All 2012 F-series M cars come with the retro-inspired steering wheel pictured with the round boss. The "M-Sport" steering wheel is markedly different.
I am not sure the 3-spoke retro 'M' steering wheel can be retrofitted. |

The picture in the first post is the genuine M sportswheel for the F30.
I also think this can be fitted to a F20 as I came accross this vid on youtube the other day;

It all depends on where your seating position is and how you have the steering wheel adjusted.. I had to fettle with the position for a little while before I got it right

I think if possible. This is the non-M sports steering wheel (F30)
This is the non-M sports steering wheel (F20) (Sorry for my bad english, I use traductor) ---------- Spanish: Yo creo que si es posible. El volante del F30 y del F20 no-M parece el mismo. Cuando tenga mi F21 voy a probarlo. Me encanta el volante del serie 3 con paquete M. |

I've tested the new F30 with M sport package last week.
The M steering wheel looks very nice and have a good handling, but the buttons of the control unit are so substandard. By pushing the feeling is not like a BMW... it's unlikely and feels exactly the same like the buttons of Mercedes. It was somewhat disappointing cuz the design is so cool!

f30 wheel
thanasaki did you have any success with your f30 wheel fit issues?
I would like to attempt the same and I am pretty sure it will fit without problems, but I guess the only way is to try and it and see. The f20 has a single stage air bag, right? thanks |

This 3 spoke m sport steering wheel is supposedly going to be available for the new 2er (some prototypes have been spotted with it).
Considering that the 2er is basically an 1er underneath, it should be possible to use this steering wheel on the 1er as well. The only thing is, considering that the airbag modules are different, this wheel might not be a single plug-and-play swap, some coding might be necessary as well. But this is just speculation from my part. Anyway, I'm interested in performing this mod on my car too. Has anyone else tried this already to provide us with more information? |

Most compromise with the wheel rim just masking the top of the speedometer and rev counter.

The very best compromise is OBD fully visible and dial trim ring on speedo and rev counter obscured but as the digits are clear that will do. The F30 loaner I am in at the moment has a slightly larger upper wheel aperture to match the cluster and would work for the F20 if it can be retrofitted.

About this info on manual:
1 Series cars with M Sport steering wheel (SA 710) built before 03/14 Airbag unit, multi-function keys and possibly shift paddles as well as steering wheel electronics (cable, control unit, vibration generators) must be ordered for an M Sport steering wheel and replaced. Can anyone list the parts numbers to be bought? |
