Need some advice..
Alright guys. I don't normally turn to the forums for advice in most situations but I need some opinions.
I was in a relationship for 3 1/2 years, more than 2 of those years were spent living together. It has been about 3-4 months now, I have hooked up a couple times since the break up and I thought it would kinda take my mind off the whole thing. I haven't taken a real vacation in a long time. I work long hours and never really stop feeling stress at any point, day or night. I have been getting more and more depressed over the last month or so, and I do not like where this is headed. So in order to "re-charge my batteries", I have decided I am going to go on a trip to Turks and Caicos to sit on the beach, play golf, drink and maybe fish. The only problem is, I can't find anyone to come with me. They all have no more time off or can't afford a trip at the moment. I really need this trip and I don't know what I should do. At first, I just said "fuck it" I will go solo and it will be fine. But honestly, every review I read says, "we" this and "us" that. I have seen forgetting sara marshall 10 times and well I don't think that trip he went on to Hawaii would have been half as entertaining as it turned out to be had it not been for his ex-gf staying in the same resort with a new boy friend. I know, it's just a movie. Well what do you guys think? I will be staying at either Gansevoort or the Reagent Palms. I haven't been to TnC in over a decade and I have no idea what I am getting myself into. I just need a little escape from life right now and I think this is the answer. Thanks for reading. |

that sux bro. Believe me things will get better, it always works out that way. Why TnC? its a very couples or group oriented setting. Why not someplace that changes your perspective on life. Someplace that will make you say when you get back "damn, I can't believe I wasted 3.5 years of my life with her".
I say Europe or Asia backpack trip. Believe me you will feel like a small speck in these countries, maybe that's what you need... Good luck bro! |

I did Thailand, vietnam, cambodia, and laos about 2 years ago. Came home from that trip and stripped my 335 down to bone stock. It was certainly eye opening and I really grew from that trip.
Not to sound jaded, but I am in no mood for europe. I have been everywhere in europe and I just want sand, alcohol, golf, and hopefully fishing. Any other suggestions with white sand, blue water, and green fairways? |

It seems like you are a well traveled man. I can't really suggest any place that fits your bill. But I will encourage you to take the trip, even if it's by yourself. Just to get away for a while and 'find yourself', for lack of better words.
I wanted to travel many times, but never did because my friends did not have the financial means to. I regret wasting the free time I had. I would've done it now, even if I had to go myself. |

I say.. just book the trip and go solo. You can have a lot more of a relaxed, do what you want when you want trip that way. Probably be really relaxing that way as well. Unless your concerned from a safety standpoint, I do not see any down side to going solo.

Don't they have like group trips where you basically join with other singles to go places..maybe those are for more touristy spots. One thing i did which was fun and relaxed was a caribbean cruise. There's plenty of caribbean islands that have white sand and golfing. And they speak English. It is hard to plan trips with friends, money, time, etc.

You need to go by yourself and get away for a while.
Do not go to TnC or anywhere in the carribean. Mostly anywhere you go is going to be bustling with couples or families. Go to Seychelles. It will change your outlook on life and the last thing you will be, is bored. |

NYCGarbage,
Don't stress to much about the lady. Girls come and go, its a part of life. The key is to remain positive (i'm sure you have heard this ad nauseum), and move on with you life. The vaca thing sounds like a good deal...hopefully you will be able to clear your mind and get things on track again. A very wise friend of mine....who shall remain anonymous....once told me that, "Girls come and go...but the naked pictures you have of them....last forever." Cheers, MJC

You know the saying "as one chapter closes, another one begins".
You just have to look at the bright side of things. In this case...you have more time to spend on yourself and focus on your career and goals in life. It will give you a chance to be a better person overall. |

Thank you all for the words of encouragement. My career is flourishing. But I need to get away from it right now. It is a family business and it carries an extra burden of guilt any time a mistake a made or customer lost. I have been going really hard these last 2 years, and I have been an active part of the company for the last decade. I have never taken a full weeks vacation during the last 2 years. Any time I sit at the dinner table with my family it is all about work. Anytime i do anything with my father it is work. I have 2 friends that work for me. When I hang out with them, if we aren't talking about sports or girls, we are talking about work.
I need to get away from work. |
