What happened to the ship? Did I miss it? Did it sink? The crew is generally trained in putting fires out since fire and flooding are the two major enemies of any ship.

And yet fires still sink ships These cars get packed in there and it's not inconceivable that things could run away pretty fast.

I think if they abandoned the vessel it’s finders keepers according to international maritime law. Surely there’s a lawyer or two on bimmerpost that can confirm or deny this?.

I’m sure the ships have halon deployment systems. One of the main tactics for stopping fires on ships is depriving the fire of oxygen one of the three things it needs to survive. That system must’ve failed. At least on one level. It’s inconceivable that on a ship of today fire can get out-of-control to the point of sinking it. There’s no way an accidental fire could bring down a navy vessel. At least not our navy. I’ll be interested to read the final report of how it started, why they were unable to contain it and most importantly the final amount of damage it did.

Likely, but if it was an EV battery runaway, that might not be enough to stop it. Doesn't work on planes, apparently.
Plane safety-systems are confirmed to not stop lithium-ion battery fires |

My Porsche Dealer in Houston called me and let me know my 992 Turbo S wasn't involved since it's an April delivery vehicle, but a Porsche Dealer in Austin lost 3 GT3s and 2 Turbo S. 1100 Porsches lost is a lot and nearly 200 Bentleys. |

There is a LOT of moving around with heavy equipment for this kind of transport. I've seen some videos on it and it's pretty amazing to watch, they will re-configure decks for the height of the cars, pack as many as possible in, take on heavy-equipment and other construction stuff in addition to cars for dealers, all sorts of stuff. There are a LOT of potential sources here, ICE car, EV car, those are just a few. I'm not sure if I can find the video, but it's really interesting to watch, might have been on amazon or something.

It was headed to R.I. with about 4000 cars so lightly loaded they said. Add some id4 and Taycan and there's a big fire when thermal run away with the batteries.

According to this, captain confirms EVs are ablaze, but not necessarily the initial source.
Ship carrying Porsches and Bentleys ablaze near Azores, towing boats en route That's gonna be a big mess. If 4000 vehicles on there, that implies 2700 Audis and VWs along with the others. |

wonder if it would be worth it to take a ship out there and snatch an unaffected or mildly damaged 911 / lambo with a crane lol. the crew is gone right?
would obviously be a branded title but hey put gas in and it runs like a normal car. you could keep it just as a track car no? one can dream...
