Keeping engine running

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I have had my car for just 6 months now (550e) and have not been able to figure out a few things.

One of them is keeping the engine running. I often need to step out and leave the car airconditioning going (Houston).
However, the car turns off when I open the door. I have tried switching to sport mode but that also turns off the engine. I have tried leaving the key fob in the car and still turns off!

Anything else I can do?

My car doesn't do this, so you must have some setting on that needs to be adjusted. Try "Asking BMW" when you are in the car, and telling it you want to adjust that feature.

The 'e' suffix should be traded for 'i', apparently.

You should have an option/setting that allows the car to stay running after you open the door. You also need the battery to have a charge for the climate system to work or to pre-condtion the interior, which I think is one of the worst designs.

Have to ask, have you read the owner's manual?

You can also just use the 'Climatize Now' feature from your MyBMW app or the iDrive exit screen when you turn off the car. It will keep Houston's heat away for up to 30 minutes without needing the engine running.

In iDrive, go to settings > door/vehicle access > scroll down to > Turn off vehicle after opening door, make sure the box is not have a check mark in it.

Thank you for the only useful response to my post.

Thank you - not sure why you felt the need to be a RFA. No one forced you to write anything so you're just yelling out to everyone on this thread that you are a rude AH.

No offense intended.
