Power after the car has been locked
Hi, I have both the "Y" cable and BMW USB charger connected to my car. When I double pressed the engine start/stop button to switch off everything, I noticed the "Y" cable is still charging the iPod, and when I leave the car and locks it, the USB charger's green light is still on. How long will it be before the car cuts the power supply to those outlets? Knowing that the battery is being drained as I walk away from the car is not very comforting. Please help. Thanks.

I would not be too concerned about the power drain.
Your Ipod would have to be connected for several months before it could possibly drain the battery in a 1er Power to ancillery items is cut after one hour from ignition switch off. This allows for the audio system to still be used even when the car is turned off. As the Ipod is connected to the audio system it also has that function. |

According to my dealer (service department) the car enters ''sleep mode'' (i.e. all power is cut off from al systems) 20' after you lock the car.
Worry not about the iPod, I had it connected for 18 months in the Z4 (and 1 year now in the 116i) and never had a problem with the battery. There is also the battery monitor system in the 1 series (and all modern BMWs for that matter), so if the battery voltage drops below a critical point, even if ignition is ON the system cuts all power off in order to protect the battery and preserve some power for starting the car.

Many thanks AusF20 & Fanis for your replies, very thorough, especially speaking from personal experience. Now I don't have to look paranoid and pull out the cable every time I get out of the car.
