Genesis Magma GT debuted in November 2025 as a luxurious, mid-engine V8 supercar.
Newly unveiled interior features analog controls, high craftsmanship, and plush materials for a unique luxury experience.
Genesis has resisted the big-screen trend seen in modern car design.

Genesis stunned the motoring world last November when it revealed the Magma GT Concept. This mid-engine V8 supercar has all the presence of a Ferrari or McLaren supercar, so the fact that it comes from a conservative luxury brand is a particular shock. What we didn’t get a good look at initially was the Magma GT’s interior, which has now been unveiled alongside the new Magma GT3 Concept at Le Mans. The reveals come just ahead of the Genesis Magma Racing team’s participation in the legendary endurance race. A two-passenger luxury grand tourer, the majestic cabin of the Magma GT more than lives up to that description.
While many supercars strip down the interior to the essentials and place the emphasis on the driving controls—take a look inside the McLaren 750S to see what we mean—the Magma GT takes an entirely different route. The twin-cockpit layout combines analog controls and high-end craftsmanship to stunning effect.
Luxuriously padded materials and elegantly executed lighting wrap around both occupants. The center console is wide and high, creating a clear separation between the driver and passenger. Instead of lazily slapping a big screen in the middle of the dash, Genesis has gone with a beautiful selection of analog, tactile controls. There’s an analog instrument cluster that’s inspired by motor racing timekeeping instruments, real buttons on the steering wheel, large paddles, and a proper shift lever. There is still a center screen, but it’s small by modern standards and mounted lower down, so it does away with the cold, clinical feel of so many new car interiors.
Warm leather colors add to the sense of occasion, as do the quilted seats with integrated headrests. It all makes the new Audi Nuvolari’s interior look decidedly gloomy, and we’re pleased to see that the Genesis luxury touch has not been lost in such a powerful, performance-focused machine.

Genesis has been putting out some amazing designs lately. I never thought I'd say that, but the Germans (and lately the Italians) really need to learn a thing or two from Genesis's design team.

I just can't. The interior looks like my aunt's living room couch pattern. Fake shift gate is a little cheesy. Styling is just another "looks like every other or close to every other exotic/super car on the road".

We have reached the max as far as these types of cars go. And, as always, it has to be asked: Why buy a Hyundai(or whatever similar brand) when you clearly probably have the funds to get something with a horse or a bull on the bonnet?

Exciting exterior design -- but even if I could afford the thing the lack of a rear window is a deal killer. The C8 has a rear window, this could too and still be gorgeous.

Interior is a mixed bag. the quilting thing is, uh, interesting. Kinda like it kinda hate it. The instrumentation is refreshing. Love the analog elements and lack of screens. Would be great to see more of that in other brands.

The gated shifter: Not sure where the hate is coming from? It's a different take on PRND but seems quite logical. And I think I'd appreciate having such very clear delineation of where the shifter goes to be in P, R, N or D. That can be confusing in a lot of autos these days. Take the M2 etc. It's great that the shifter is clearly up and to the left for Reverse. But you have to really look to tell whether it is in N or D or manual mode. These gates eliminate that confusion.

That said, they reversed the proper directions for upshifts and downshifts. It's not ergonomic this way. You typically upshift when accelerating, which is pushing you backwards. So the natural movement is to pull the lever backwards too. Having to push it forward when G forces are pushing you back into your seat makes zero sense. That's a total fail.

Hyundai's transition was heavily driven by key individuals who defected from BMW's design and engineering divisions:

Christopher Chapman: In 2011, Hyundai hired Chapman—the former BMW automotive design chief and exterior designer of the BMW X5 and Z4—to lead the Hyundai Design North America center in Irvine, California.

Albert Biermann: Perhaps the biggest "steel," Hyundai brought in the former head of BMW's M performance division in 2015 to establish the highly successful Hyundai N brand. He later rose to be the Head of Research and Development for the entire Hyundai Motor Group.

Pierre Leclercq: The former Brand Design Chief for BMW M joined Kia (part of Hyundai Motor Group) as its design boss to refine their international aesthetics.

The Broader "Poaching" StrategyBeyond BMW, Hyundai recruited top talent across the industry, notably bringing in former Audi design chief Peter Schreyer (who revolutionized Kia's styling) and ex-Bentley/Lamborghini designer Luc Donckerwolke, who now serves as President and Chief Design Officer of the entire Hyundai Motor Group.

Looks 1000x better than a C8 Corvette. As long as it doesn't have the crappy GM DCT, I'd take this in a heartbeat.

Idk - 3rd & 5th are up in standard manual. I've also driven some manuals where 2nd & 4th were up (1st was down left).

For sure. But that’s unavoidable in a manual. Some upshift is going to require pushing the lever forward against the G forces that are pushing you backward.

But in an auto we don’t have that constraint. So it’s an opportunity to be ergonomic. And upshifting by pushing forward is almost never going to be ergonomic. I appreciate that BMW got this right with the ZF shifter. I sometimes use it instead of the paddles and always appreciate that I’m pulling backwards to upshift while accelerating and pushing forward to downshift while decelerating. It’s simply a more natural movement given what the car is doing to your body.
