Back in the old days, M-cars were only sold to collectors and hard core driving enthusiasts. Now the buying groups is a lot larger, and I guess BMW have done their research about what these customers want. Most of them will never take their car to a track, and they actually prefer slightly soft suspension. The hard core guys will replace the suspension with aftermarket coilover kits anyway.
I am very pleased with both the suspension and the steering on our 116i M-Sport, and I am the type of person who use the car on race tracks. A lot of people have been surprised about how well this car works. That would not have been the case if the suspension or steering was flawed.
