Do not know the law in Austalia. In Europe, the warranty is valid even you service the car outside the main dealer network,
as long as: you used genuine parts and the service was done according to BMW instructions (down to the last detail, like the torque required to bolt a nut for example). If you can prove that the above 2 conditions were met, then BMW cannot void your warranty. In real life, just to have your peace of mind, it is better to stick to main dealer network for the duration of your warranty.
