Hey,
I've got a 2012 120d heard a ticky noise the other week so took it into BMW. They changed the chain and rails etc and the noise went, so yes it is affected. Only hope is you get the noise when you're still under warranty or try get a 2014, because I've heard that 2013 do it too!
