The most typical time for failures is when a car is brand new and then again when it reaches a significant mileage. its called the bathtub effect, due to the way the failure chart looks.

Any make of car will have a certain percentage of failures. Its what warranty is for. You just got unlucky but it could happen to anyone. As long as your dealer believes that BMW UK will cover the cost, which they undoubtedly will, it should only need 1 day to fix....once the part is ordered, assuming that is that it even needs a part.
