Even surgically reattached vas deferens are never as viable as they were pre-vasectomy. I think those cases we hear about of post-vasectomy impregnations occur when unprotected sex occurs while there is still motile sperm in the ejaculate or poorly performed vasectomy procedures. Another issue to consider is some vasectomy methods are more effective than others. I had to provide two semen samples that were free of motile sperm before I was confirmed to be sterile.
