Mechanical keyboard use mechanical switches for every key to send a signal to the computer, hence the name.
The typical keyboard you get off the shelf for $20 are made with rubber domes that collapse and bounce back every time you press a key .
Biggest difference between the two is the feel while typing. Mechanical switches are much more tactile and less fatiguing than the mushy rubber dome keyboard.
