I disagree. I find it a lot easier to get in and out of five door cars, despite being 189 cm tall. The long doors are difficult to open in tight parking lots. There is plenty of space inside the car, and could definitely live with a slightly smaller car. The rear hatch is a lot more practical than the 2-series trunk if you want to transport something like a bicycle inside.

The best selling car segment in Southern Europe is the Polo class, one size smaller than the 1-series.

Besides, the 2-series is heavily overprized compared the 1-series for no practical reasons. It is just about exclusivity and image.
