Well, design language is one thing, but architecture and chassis sharing is another. Just 5 years ago, maybe 7 years, BMW was still touting that it was the only remaining
uncompromising automobile manufacturer because it did not platform share between brands like other manufacturers do (e.g. Audi). Since then, the Rolls is shared with the 7 and the Mini is the base for the 118i. 50/50 weight balance as an axiom of chassis design has go the way of electronic chassis control.
It's not just that the cars are ugly.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
