Attachment 1505088Autocar reports that a BMW M8, based off the upcoming resurrected 8 Series (see first spy photos), is tentatively scheduled to be introduced by the second half of 2019. An application to register the M8 trademark was recently filed by BMW.

The M8 is speculated to be powered by a new twin turbo 4.0L V8 engine, and come RWD or optional AWD xDrive. The AWD model with its improved traction is supposed to achieve 0-62mph in well under 4 seconds.

Like the 8 Series upon which it will be based, the M8 is expected to feature a lighter-weight mix of materials, including aluminum, magnesium, high-strength steel and carbon fiber.

The M8 will be positioned to compete with the likes of the Mercedes AMG S63 Coupe, Aston Martin Rapide and Bentley Continental GT.
