I like the look of that Russian system. There was a similar mod on the e86 Z4 where we used to replace the spring that pushed the boot clear with a heavier duty one from a 5 series.

The thing that worries me with the F20 boot is that you have to pull on the badge/handle to open it and it doesn't feel like it's going to stand up to years of being used to pull the boot lid up several times a day. It's just a wee bit of plastic on a 2 pin hinge and I can see it wearing over time.
