Alpine retrofit

Hi

I would like to share my experiences with having this kit installed for anyone interested in an updated experience. Most threads I have seen date back a few years and may not reflect the current

I have procured the kit for my 2018 F20 125i LCI-2 with base audio. Part numbers:

65412413270 (kit)
65132230426 (emblems)
51332240350 (window border right)
51332240351 (window border left)

When I received my order, the kit received was actually 65412293994. The amp itself now has way more settings and now accounts for RHD. There is a newer installation manual that also takes into account LHD and RHD configuration.

I chose to perform the HIFI coding prior to having the kit installed. As a standalone change on the base system, this makes a measurable difference. You lose a little volume, but the gain is a system that sounds more like it should (with factory settings it is quite boomy to my ear).

I had the kit installed by a local car audio outfit, which took them 4 hours but the charges were still way less than BMW, they had no real issues. The result is quite good, you get the better staging of the tweeters, a measurable increase in volume thanks to the amp and the factory woofers still in place under the seats contribute a better punch than before.

Overall the kit is not cheap ($1300 AUD + install) however bang for buck wise it is well worth it
