Maybe the tyres had deeper tread at the center from the factory.
If not, it could be related to wrong tyre pressure. Historically, edge wear was caused by too low pressure, but with modern runflat tyres, it is sometimes the other way around.

In Norway, a lot of BMW owners suffer from excessive inside rear tyre wear. It seems to be caused by driving on roads with ruts. Personally, my BMWs always suffer from excessive outer front tyre wear. It is caused by track days! :-)
