It was life-changing to say the least. But I never stopped loving riding - it was/is one of my biggest passions. So, 8 years later (and, (surprisingly, with my family's blessing, having seen how diminished my spirit had become) I got back in the saddle and have been riding on hard mode for the last 14 years.
