I'm the exception. I like Neil Young for his voice. I didn't care for his grunge years, but I really like his voice. I was lucky enough to see Buffalo Springfield a coupe of times live before they broke up. Neil Young's contribution to that amazing (to me) group is pure gold. His love/hate relationship with Stills carried through to the CSNY years and they created some great music together with Neil Young's voice playing a prominent role in their sound. For me, its the combination of his voice and his amazing guitar work and how they fit together. Then, add his songwriting and that is why he is so special to me.

Funny thing, my son who is now 47 years old hated Neil Young's voice because he was introduced to his music in the 90s. I asked my son if he would take the time to back in time and listen to Neil Young's early work. He said yes and then became a fan too. Just yesterday, my son and I were heading home from Lake Tahoe after a couple of days of skiing. Without asking what I wanted, he put on Neil Young's Harvest Moon album.

I get why people find his voice awful. I'm just not one of them I think he is a brilliant singer/songwriter/musician with a legacy to go with it.

Now, don't get me started on Bob Dylan....
