I read that Duane Eddy died yesterday and just finished listening to a few pieces of his. I hadn't heard him in so long that I'd forgotten all about how distinctive his style of guitar playing was.
This one is a nearly 30-years later take on the music he wrote for the intro to the late-50s Peter Gunn tv series. It's an excellent example of his sound. The sax is more prominent than it was when he came on the scene, but I think that instrument's more forward sound here is the perfect complement to Eddy's guitar.
FWIW, Eddy was self-taught and could not read nor score music.
