If I recall correctly; "Air collar" is the name of the new A-pillar that is designed similar to how the recent Ferrari F12 Berlinetta has the flow through aero from the hood to the front fenders.
You'll soon see that BMW has worked it out to provide a similar feature with the A-Pillar, decrease wind turbulence and provide down force.
Its very interesting but years away from production.
