iPod USB - Anyone heard about pricing?

I have a march prod date, and want to add this. Pricing will determine, though...

I'm guessing $250-300. Probably not more than that.

Gosh, a 80gb iPod costs only $332.49, and the 30gb is $237.49, $250-$300 to integrate is not reasonable imho. I have a line-out from the dock port and a Belkin that holds it in the cupholder. Once I choose what playlist I want, I'm doing line out to the stereo and can use my steering wheel controls. Personally I think it's a waste to spend another $200+ on this thing, rather buy another iPod.

Since I just use the shuffle feature on the Ipod (it saves me the stress of chosing what to listen to and since I put the music on it, it's all that I like anyway), I'm going with this setup, thanks to theclay:

^ I use this setup now. It's a good solution for the current system. I'm still looking forward to the new system however. I'll just move the Monster to the E91.

It's $350 here in Canada, so I'm thinking it will cost around the $300 mark for you all in the US.

STE92VE, you have a interesting set up there. I take it that, you can't fold down your armrest because the aux jack is in the way. I've paid for the usb option, I hope it will conceal the ipod, just keeps everything clean. Does anyone know where the usb will be located, other than just in the center console? What it will look like?

This is the setup that theclay uses and I will use it when I take delivery. I think there is enough clearance from the top of the armrest and you should be able to fold it down. LEDZEP has a similar setup and he should be able to confirm.

It uses the Monster ICarCharger for Ipod and a patch cable. You can check it out here:

Like I said, I have the same setup (got the idea from the sticky in this forum). The armrest closes nicely and keep everything concealed. I also added the Air Click (see photo) which allows me to Stop/Start, Fwd/Rwd, Skip fwd/bkwd, etc. This is the poor man's integration, but still limited because you can only navigate through the playlist you're currently in. Still, better than nothing.

Yes its March production and April delivery. It is available now for March production, if your car is already in production, then you may have missed this one. Not a huge factor, cause there are some really good alternatives out there.

I was under the impression that some didn't like the idea of the iPod bouncing around in there. That's why I spent $19 for the Belkin Tunedok which suspends the iPod and uses the cupholder. I like STE's idea of shuffling. Why spend $300 for a USB port? That's nearly the cost of an 80gb, and more than a 30gb. Guess it's like Philly Mag, a question of the have mores and the have even mores. They said 1200 people in Philly are worth more than 30 mil. I bet all of them have iPod integration.

When in the cupholder, can the armrest close completely? I enclose my Ipods in a toughskin or iskin protector to alleviate the shock. Wouldn't think that it will be bouncing around too much, we're not offroading with our E92's.

Yep....I don't have the Monster cord. I have one that goes to the dock port, and is nothing more than a 1/8" male that goes into the aux jack. So I'm not charging, only doing the line out. Not sure if the Monster has a coiled up cord for the power or not. The armrest seems to have some sort of rubber seal (could it be for the temp, i.e. cooled or heated cupholder or whatever) so I think that allows it to close over my cord. You're probably right about the shaking, but I prefer that it doesn't....

If your iPod is "bouncing around" inside the armrest storage, then I'm afraid you are going to have many more expensive problems than damage to your $300 iPod!

When I go off-roading through the canyon trails in my E90 at high speeds, I have the good sense to remove the iPod and place it into a padded velvet lined box - lest it become damaged.

Not at all, integration costs more than the device itself, so that makes no sense. I'd rather spend $237 and give a niece or nephew a 30gb iPod as a present, than to gain a USB port and be able to control the iPod from the steering wheel. My budget was not unlimited, and it will not be on my next BMW, which is due to be ordered in 2021....

That's what I had read in the audio forum...I've never experienced it personally as I have the TuneDok. If I didn't have the Belkin product I could put it in there and shuffle, but since I have it I'll just keep doing the cupholder thing....
