Torque Limit on the Gearbox Limits Tuning?

I guess this question does not limit on the M135i only, but I suppose it applies to all the cars. Let's take manual for example, the gearbox is supposedly made by Getrag, and anything in their range that fit close to the 450 Nm maximum output of the M135i is the 6MTI500 (could be wrong), which is rated at 500 Nm.

My question is which this type of specification does it mean tuning is limited at 500 Nm (which seems to be easily achievable with a tuning box)? For people driving auto ZF specifies pretty much similar torque limits if memory serves me correctly.

I am sure they have safety factors built into them, but then I suppose that's for people dropping their clutches, doing crazy things , or any unforeseen events. I am just wondering how you gents take it? Thanks~

I suspect there is some 'headroom' built into the rating, but I'm keen to see what happens once there's a few tunes implemented.

With the Hartge tune it appears I can unleash 540+ Nm and I'm happy to leave it at that.

The only thing I'm going to do is swap in an LSD when funds permit.

Whilst it doesn't feel like this amount of torque is pushing the drivetrain beyond it's mechanical limits, a hefty gear change can still wallop my back from time to time and I do spare a thought for the poor old clutch. 10,000 miles down the road already and no sign of any issues yet though.

It feels like this is at the top end of what the tyres can hold, even with super sticky Pilot Super Sports.

So what is the life time of your rear brake pads? We have 19000 km on our 116i now, and the iDrive claims they must be replaced in 3100 km. I assume the more powerful cars eat the brake pads rather quickly if you have a heavy right foot.

11.5k miles on the odometer and iDrive says front pads will be due in 26,000 miles, rear pads in 37,000 miles.

Yup. Like Madgambler, I have a Hartge piggy back with AFE intake and MP exhaust.. not sure of the Bhp or torque, but I do get wheel spin at 3 rd gear. It puts a smile on my face when ever I floor it in sports+. .. so far it runs well..
My brake pads are covered under warranty even for the disc rotor, all covered..
