Now that my 116i is finished with the 2000 km run in procedure, I have been testing some full throttle application in the different modes. If I drive uphill at constant speed in Comfort mode, and switch to Sport, the car starts accelerating, even if I keep the throttle constant. Seems like it remaps the throttle to be more sensitive.

Are there other differences in engine control between the modes? Seems to me like there is more power available in Sport than Eco Pro, and that Comfort is something in between. There is also more noise and vibrations at full throttle in Sport Mode.

I will try to do some runs to measure power in the different modes later this summer.

Try steering in Eco pro, then switch to sport and notice the more responsive steering

I don't have adaptive suspension on my car, or active steering. Didn't notice any difference in steering feel between the modes. I don't think the car can do any changes to my manual gearbox either. Seems like only the engine and instrument panel are affected.

I've been driving around in ECO mode for my 340 miles so far but I tried sport today and the throttle and steering feel is very different.

You don't need active steering to feel the difference

So there is supposed to be less power assist in Sport mode, and more in Eco Pro?

i dont claim to know how it works- but this happens for me:

Eco: drives like a beached whale. Steering is unresponsive, throttle is partially controlled by the computer to save fuel
comfort: throttle is more in my control, pushing it isnt as hard, steering is more responsive
sport: throttle is completly in my control, and is really quick, steering is spot on
sport+: weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i def notice a difference- perhaps there is a difference between urban / sport and m sport mappings

In all modes the steering will feel fine.
Sport mode significantly stiffens up the steering feel.

The only thing the car can do about the steering, is to change the amount of power assist. To get more steering feel, I guess the power assist must be reduced in sport mode. In my car, I can't notice any difference in steering effort between the modes.

Maybe we should make measurements. With the car stationary, it should be possible to measure steering effort with a fishing scale or something similar to compare the modes. As an engineer, I always prefer measured figures.

My 118i M Sport is just too sluggish in Eco Pro for my liking whilst Comfort is acceptable for normal urban driving but there is a significant difference when swtiching to Sport mode; much better acceleration (drives like it looks it should) and the steering is more weighted. As iBeech says the difference is staggering!

May be there is a difference whether you have the adaptive suspension or not?
At least in Norway the Adptive Drive package includes Adaptive steering.

I'm convinced that it's only with M-Sport or Adaptive Steering that there's a difference -notice the "wow" comments only originating from M-Sport owners . What's confusing though is that it sounds like Adaptive Steering is an option even with M-Sport (and that iBeech for example doesn't have it specced), so I'm stumped.

I'm not sure if that's true. I've test driven a 118d Urban (with the default Servotronic) a few weeks ago and I could easily notice the difference in steering between Eco Pro, Comfort and Sport. Especially at higher speeds (120km/u and more).

agreed- i test drove a 118d sport and i noticed the difference there as well
