Having just come from a 10 year old Golf TDI to my 11 month old F20, I can confirm the NVH of the BMW is far superior to my other and ex vehicles.
For those of you that feel the F20 is too noisy, the answer is simple... Rent a basic car and drive it for a week. Come back to the F20 and life will be all good again Keep smiling.... |

I agree. Tyres make a massive difference. My previous car was a Leon FR and it had the same Pirelli Rossos, which I found extremely noisy. Replaced them with Michellin Primacy 3s and was astounded at how much quieter they were. More fuel efficient too.
That said, the F20 is quieter than the Leon even with Pirellis, despite having lower profiles. |

I haven't noticed any wind noise on my car. It's very quiet at 70 MPH.

Road roar on surfaces with the more grippy embedded gravel type finish were shockingly loud at first and smooth tarmac was quiet. I'm getting used to the new noise levels after my first month of ownership though and it's less of an issue now. |

I think tires make a huge difference.
For example. My girlfriend and I both have 2004 BMW 3 series. Hers is a convertible with the M sport exhaust. Mine is a 4 door sedan with no sport exhaust... Which do you think would be quieter? The soft top or a solid structure? Well... I have these shitty fierce tires that were on the car when I bought it, and she has michelin Pilot super sports. Her car is a noticeably quieter than mine, and I have a solid structure with doors and proper seals for the window and everything and hers is still more quite. Maybe upgrade ur tires! |
