In my 3 series manual, there is reference to an option where you can set the heating to come on at a set time of day

I have no idea which option you need when ordering your car to get this feature- does anyone know if this is standard on the f20?

It's not standard, no. In fact, I don't see that feature listed anywhere for the F20.

What does appear to be standard (at least, it's in mine, and I didn't order it ), is a timer for ventilation - in summer you can set a time that the car fans will turn on to cool the interior.

I guess it can also be used to heat the car anyways no? If you can set the temp, then does it mind high or low┐

Perhaps if the engine is still warm. But that's not the point.

Stationary heating means there's an extra heater in the car, running on petrol, that can heat the car when the engine's not running. In cold countries it preheats the car in the mornings before you get in.

This ventilation in the F20 is just using the fans to circulate fresh air through the car - it can cool the car somewhat, but it's not like having the heating (or the A/C) running while the engine is running.
