Pics don't do it justice. It looks x2 better in real life, almost good. Photos lie. It looks better in darker colors and with blacked out grille it's very good looking actually.

All the F20 haters are missing the point. The target market.

BMW would not invest millions into a new model without a pretty solid amount of market research that suggests the car will have a strong market to sell to.

BMW probably wasn’t making this car with your demographic in mind. Especially if you're in North America, you're not even getting this car, so don't worry about it! Just as I'm not sat here worried about what the latest GM oversized, overpowered gas guzzling pick up truck is going look like....

I walked into the show room, saw an F20 sport sat there in crimson red and thought wow! So I bought one. The car is absolutely perfect for me and to my eyes, its a stunning looking car.

Well done BMW.

Old enough and intelligent enough then you would have thought to have a sensible discussion.

I'm a 29 year old software developer/project manager. There's your target market; young, active, creative. People in design & technology, young execs, junior middle managers.

I took part in a focus group for BMW earlier this year and it was clear this was a market in which BMW was under represented, with most of the people there being 45+ 3/5/X drivers. I.e your average dentist is well catered for elsewhere in the BMW range.

The folks at BMW, armed with a hell of lot more knowledge and understanding about marketing cars than you, have produced a car to fit the data they were seeing about who they were and were not selling cars to.

Stick to your X3, am i on that forum slagging that car off? No.

I'm no Audio fan but have you looked at the latest 3,5 & 7 series all look the same, more so than any Audi.

I like the look of the 3 door, I'm surprised that they are making one as I've hardly ever seen a 3 door 1 series, most are 5 doors or coupes.

Saw a 5 door in person and those headlights look completely ridiculous. I don't see how something that ugly can be approved for production.

Let's hope they change them for the 2 series.

+1 My brother drives a 5 door 118d and ordered a new F20 when it was released and regrets more and more his choice the more he sees them on the road. I found it "not that bad" initially but the more he sees them, the uglier it looks to him. He is jealous of my 128i coupe that looks WAAAAAAAAAAY nicer. Just hope they don't screw the 2-series like they butchered the F20

There is a marvelous invention called the airplane that allows you to travel to other countries in the world. You should give it a try, it's an awesome experience.

Looks are a completely subjective matter. I'm glad some people like it so BMW keeps making money to make wonderful M products.

It doesn't matter how many times I see it, I find the front of the car ugly.

The Dentist is missing the point, he is not the target demographic. The target demographic has the same level of professional qualification as he does and is probably the same age, but lives in China - an attractive market due to its high growth in demand and appetite for hatchbacks where premium brands attract a premium/margin that can't be achieved in the saturated and highly competitive US market. Check out the Geely LC Hatch and you get a sense of what the Chinese market seems to find appealing.....

I personally think the F20 looks much better in the flesh, photographs cannot pick up the surface detailing, particularly around the nose, and consequently it looks bland and clumsy when photographed compared to real life. We have quite a few on the road here and it's growing on me, looks much better with xenons and rim upgrades.

And that is the problem...............it is growing on you. UGH!

The difference is every time I see my 335i coupe from a distance, I still think it is the best looking car. I do not need my next car to grow on me.

I don t understand those who post negative comments about a car that is not in the list of their future buy
2 series coupe/ cabrio will have a totally different design for sure
BMW prepared this hatchback with a lot of goodies like new 4 cyl petrol engines (best in class), better interior quality, more room for the backseats and the new eight speed transmission
The design is also different than the other hatchbacks available and will look much more aggressive when it will be equipped with M Pack

BMWDAD: I don t understand your worries at all
The future 4 series will be more elegant, lighter, roomier, sportier and (just a rumor for the moment) more powerful in 35i spec
The future 2 series is not so close to be released so the engineers have enough time to make it very good, better in every aspect compared to the actual model

The reviews of the new 328i sedan are just outstanding from every mag.
So you are correct a 4 might be in my future.

As for the 2, I can only hope your positive statements are correct.
