BMW Toying with Offering Diff for M135i?

I follow Chris Harris on twitter. Tomorrow I believe he should have his video of M135i vs A45 AMG. I am excited for it because I am considering a M235i or CLA45 AMG

He's been talking to the man behind the M135i according to his twitter, and today he posted

would be wonderful if they would offer it also on the 125i, BMW could make a lot of money with this

I am sure Quaife would be less happy if BMW offers limited slip differentials to their customers.

Why do BMW mess around with this stuff... clearly the owners want the options to have the LSD... Just like Porsche crippling the cayman on purpose...

I guess both BMW and Porsche know that a smaller and lighter car is faster and more fun to drive. They do however want to sell a bigger, heavier and more expensive car.

but would a M135i with LSD steal sales from an M3/4?

Yes, I think they could. If the M135i and Cayman started posting faster laptimes around the Nürburgring than their larger siblings, more people would buy them for bragging rights.

I agree with the Cayman vs the 911, because the car size wise is so damn similar, but M135i vs an M3 is a different category of car...

But a lot of M3 owners don't really need all the extra space. They buy it because it is faster and has a sharper setup than the M135i.

The F20 is actually bigger than the original M3 (E30).

well to be honest, the M5 is doing fine even with the m3 around. BMW need to take the sales where they can, MB aren't holding back on their baby amg, BMW can't muck around with this

I agree, the A45 AMG has brought it to a whole new level. Equal the A45 with the M135i, and absolutely smash it with the new 2 M coupe (or whatever it'll be called).

Sorta like how the 335i is considered equal to the S4, which is laughable because the S isnt only as good as a best 3 series!

Have you seen a 981 parked next to a 991 in real life? Size is the biggest difference.

I don't believe that BMW is going to introduce a real lsd option vs. electronic differential to their non M cars, not in this generation. First of all, it would hurt the upcoming M2 sales.

But of course if they did not make up their minds 100% about the M2 yet (oh yes, you never know) and if they still consider not offering one and instead keeping the M3/M4 as their only compact M car, then maybe this rumor has something to do with that idea...which won't be good news for crowds waiting for the next M2.

My bet, M2 will be produced and this rumor of an aftermarket lsd will go to nowhere, at least till next generation. It may just be wishful thinking.

mate the they're both 2 seaters, one has a part time rear bench for emergencies.

This is not the same as a Mazda 3 vs mazda 6 decision... which is what a 1 series to a 3 series is...

The Cayman has grown to be rather big. It even has a longer wheelbase than the current 911.

DAMMIT i wanted LSD....

my current car order i'm 95% happy with it

If I added the reversing camera

and it had LSD and a drag coefficient of something under .30 i'd be at 98%.

if it looked a bit better then 99%.

If it had overrun crackle 100%
