Excessive wind noise
Hi,
I am increasingly irritated from the wind noise at speeds like 120-150 kph. I talked to the service and will drop by to let them check the seals and whatnot but I dont have high hopes... Anybody else experiencing, or somehow resolved this issue? |

I have the same problem...I think it comes from the mirrors, but is worth checking the seals. I will ask when i go for the SW update.
Let us know what your dealer said.

There is a very easy fix for this problem.
Turn the stereo up!

It’s the size of the wing mirrors; the road noise is the compromise for increased rear visibility, which is what owners of the previous 1 series wanted.
You can't have everything I’m afraid people. It really isn't all that bad. I always have the stereo on anyway, done 1000 miles and i honestly had not noticed it at all.

From what I hear, the wing mirrors have been lifted straight from the new 3-series.
So yeah, "increased visibility" too, but actually just BMW saving costs, which is why the mirrors look proportionally bigger on the 1-series. |

Last week my stereo decided to go mute. It was strange, it all seemed operational but no sound, even the car's warnings muted (like seat-belt and PDC). Since the volume button does not actually turn the system off, I even turned off/on the whole car (it's like a sick PC joke...) No luck.
The next day it was on again. And then yesterday did it again, so I called the local BMW service. I scheduled an appointment for this thursday. I'll keep you posted... BTW I examined the car hood's smoothness around the front door mirror area more closely. The lines between bonnet, fender, and door are not really very smooth. The differences in height can be detected by hand even visually.(say 2-3 mm at least) No wonder we have so much wind noise... If this is the regular BMW quality, this might be my last Bimmer |

^Your car is in the warranty period! You must show all the "little" defects at your dealer!
For sure they will solve all these problems Good luck and post some comments about how the things turned. |

Today I took the lady in red to the service.
The sound problem seems solved with a software update. For the wind noise they tweaked the door seals a bit but they say the mirrors are larger and the level of noise is normal. It seems a tiny bit quiter now but maybe it's just placebo Anyway, all beautiful ladies have their little flaws and caprices from now and then. Don't they? |
