Servotronic Steering
Hi folks,
Looking at ordering a 118i M Sport but can't decide if the Servotronic Steering is worth £550 upgrade? Anyone with the standard steering happy with it or wished they'd specc'd it? Thanks |

I am quite happy with the standard steering. I had a chance to drive a Servotronic 3 Series loaner and did not notice any difference. Yet, I'd hate the Servotronic and choose either the standard or, at least, the Variable Sport steering (for which the Servotronic included appears a drawback to me though). The reasons why I'm so against Servotronic are: 1. I guess I'd rather have a true unpowered steering actually ; 2. There have been issues with Servotronic reported here (and anyway: if you don't have it, it won't fail ); 3. Previous 1 Series generation users criticized the current one for the steering too light (besides less informative) and Servotronic might rather make the steering lighter than standard at low speeds than heavier at high ones thus making no sense unless you are for parking comfort (with powerless arms ). |

I have the servotronic steering and it is only useful when parking or driving slowly. When going fast or driving on a track, i miss the standard hydraulic steering. If you want to know what the front wheels are actually doing, go for the standard. No need to pay that extra actually

Maybe a bit late response, but I have had a F20 without Servotronic and my current car has Servotronic. In my opinion it is a nice feature, but if the budget is limited I would prefer other options above Servotronic.
