Pictures from Peru

Just got back a couple hours ago...and I'm trolling through about 40 gig of photos.

Here's a few shots from the trip...

Lake Titicaca - elevation 12,500+ feet (yes, altitude sickness). Captured a few pics from a small storm one night. You can see some alpacas laying in the grass. Didn't even know they were there when I was taking these.

Puno had a bit of a party going on, called the Fiesta de la Candelaria, which typically starts after Carnival...

On Lake Titicaca, they have floating islands made from reeds...here's a quick shot from there. I have some decent photos from here that I still need to edit.

From the town of Puno, if you take an hour taxi ride to Junito, then a 45 minute plane ride to Cusco, followed by a 2 hour taxi ride to Ollantaytambo, followed by a three hour train ride to a base town of Calientes, and then a one hour bus ride up the mountain...approximately 2000 steps (actual steps, not walking steps) later, you get this picture.

Total PITA to get to, but a bucket list item for anyone and well worth the trip

A full 2 hours of steps later, you get to the top of Waynapicchu...those shots come later.

But you do run across some Alpacas on the way

Can't even begin to tell you how incredible Machu Picchu is. Burned through 24 Gig of photos there alone. Pictures of my wife and I look photoshopped in...really awesome stuff. Should have more later on...

Awesome, more than I would want to take You'll want to try and plan to be one of the first 200 people between 7:00 and 8:00 or 10:00 and 11:00 to get to Waynapicchu. They cap it at those numbers and times. Plan for about 4 hours on that alone.

Hmmm, exactly why I went there. Peruvians will tell you that they are the Titi part...and Bolivia is the Caca part.

Awesome pictures! Going to Peru was one of my favorite trips I have taken. The things you are able to see make it all worth the time and effort to get there.

Sorry for the delay...having some issues with my photo software.

This is one of the workers who harvests the reeds for the floating islands. water is probably 50 degrees at best.

Some more shots of Lima...showing the cliffs on the ocean.

Church in Puno...the cocaine capital of the world

couple more shots of the cliffs in Machu Picchu - notice, no guard rails.

I'll go through more of the shots from Machu Picchu, see if I can get something to really show its size.
