Being in Canada, we don't get the 7% off. Same price doing EU delivery or boring delivery at your dealer.

After doing an ED, I can no longer buy a car any other way. So, so, so awesome!

Only thing better will be to do the Canadian group M delivery. Some day......

Ok, that's less of an incentive.

I still don't see the allure...it's not as if they're throwing in a free Germany trip. I guess you can drive it on the autobahn but there's still a break-in period and can't go too crazy not to mention they have to handle your car more than the bare minimum in transit.

A large portion of forum goers are going to be in the "custom order" category so you aren't going to get an accurate answer because 90% of the people who buy their car off the lot will never visit this forum.

Custom order here with my M4...been a lot guy prior to that and will always order now. Next will be PCD.

Who the hell wouldn't want to drive their car all over Europe? Break in is 2000 km (max 160 km/hr until that point as per factory) I hit that just as I was turning onto the Stelvio Pass. So much awesome!

Not if I have to pay for it (all expenses). If ED means BMW covers everything I'm in lol.

For BMW's I am always looking for an over the top fully loaded car and these are the cars that always sit. So fortunately the last couple color combos I wanted have been easy to find and I look at the higher option cars being much more negotiable.

For the last few Porsches I purchased, it's really hard to find that "fully loaded" car because there is so many individual options that can be had. My last couple have been spec to order cars...

All of mine have been built to spec minus the M5 which was a swap.

Going back on topic, anyone have %ages? I would guess 10% ordered?

Mine was off the lot as it wasn't that hard to get the right combo of options and not too many options anyway, it's not like a Porsche w/ its freaking million combination of spec pkgs lol.

I'd guess 90% off the lot in units, maybe 75% (total guess) in dollars - logic being that a 328 driver is more swayed by a good deal on a lot vs M5 driver that wants exactly what they want and dealers aren't stocking volume, just as an example.

I've done both, bought off the lot bc I found exactly what I wanted at a great deal. Order when I can't find something in inventory.

Bought mine off the lot, sort of. I was looking for a particular combination (RWD, 6MT, no moonroof) with the other options open and my salesman found me one in southern California with those specs and shipped it all the way to Idaho for me. Sure beat waiting for a custom order, as the only difference from the one I made online was the stock one had wood trim instead of the aluminum whatever I selected on the website. Eventually (had the car for 9 months and haven't done it yet) I plan to wrap the trim in black anyway so its a non-issue, plus the wood actually looks pretty cool in person.

95% to 5% and that's generous. I just don't have the patience to order. I do however find the car I want and drive to it rather than showing up hoping the car I want is there and then settling for a sht color or missing features.

All BMW's are built to order. Whether that's for a dealer's inventory "stock" or an order for a customer's specs.

BMW says they only build the same car twice per year at each factory - bc there are so many different option combos. Personally I find that hard to believe.

Personally, I am very picky about colors, wheels, etc. so ordering to spec makes more sense for me. I want to get exactly what I want and don't desire for my car to blend in with the sea of other BMWs. Yes, it makes more sense financially to buy off the lot, but when you are spending so much $ in the first place there's nothing wrong with being picky.

It depends on the car too. With high volume vehicles like like 3-series you could find one of your choosing if you live in a large metropolis, but if you are set on that red Boxster with tan interior good luck.

Isn't the 7% reduced ED price off of MSRP and no one pays MSRP anyway? I question this "discount", then not seeing a huge value in driving my new car on vacation in another country compared to a rental that I don't care about or would worry about. Rent a BMW and go on vacation when and where I want, not worried about trying to time it and the trip around my car.

I had my exact specs in hand. Told my SA to order. Comes back and says "we have it out back, give us a day to clean it up".

So I guess technically, I bought it off the lot.

Ya, I don't see the big deal either, thrashing my new car and getting it handled an extra time in transit. It's not as if it's a free trip either. Also, that 7pc off is flakey, just like those $1k off coupons, they don't accept that after you negotiate w/ them, it's just a useless unused discount unless someone's foolish enough to pay msrp. Oh well teto.
