Job 1 or Job 2 Pros and Cons

Job 1:
Salary: $130k
Bonus: 12% (Basically guaranteed)
Variable Options (Maybe worth $10k/yr) 50/50 chance they are funded
Hours: Come In 9:15am, 2 hr lunch, leave at 4:30pm every day (no overtime ever)
Work At Home 1 day/week
401k Match 6%
5 Minute drive to work
Zero travel
Cush job
Fortune 25

Job 2:
Salary: $180k
Bonus: 15% (Basically guaranteed)
Some options, maybe worth $15k or so
Hours: Come In 8:00am, probably work through lunch several days, leave at 6pm most nights, required to be "available" via phone.
No work at home
Travel 3-4 times/quarter
35 min drive to work
Can also take train (45min)+
401k Match 6%
Fortune 500

For those who can't do math, job 2 is around $66,000 more/yr total comp.

Similar responsibilities, just manage larger team in Job 2 and smaller company (think over $200b vs $5b market cap)

Job 1. "On call" is something that can't be quantified by money IMHO.

For me, the difference is what comes next. Either one would work - one is more free time. Unless you plan to retire from this job, I'd make the decision more based on what it leads too. Growth potential. That said, I am not great with work/life balance and am pretty fucking obsessive about work I may not be the best person to advise.

This belongs in the LOL thread...isn't BayMoWe335 of the same vintage that ASBSECU E93 and shoei are?

That being said - option 1. Enjoy life and health.

Even if you don't have kids, you can't spend that extra 66K if you work all day, plus more, PLUS be on call while trying to spend the money.

should have put the "none of the above option". in my job I work from home all the time, I go to the office once a month maybe. I pick my kids up from school almost all the time, I am there for all their games and practices - even Coach. and I make enough that my wife doesn't have to, which is saying something since we just got our 4th house in California last month (3 are investment properties). we do fine. in your situation I'd keep looking. I am damn good at what I do and companies give me my terms or I keep walking.
plus last year I put 3k miles on my car

I'm not in that salary range, but I took about a 10% pay cut to work closer to home. My commute is now 5 mins instead of an hour each way. I'm actually banking more money despite the pay cut because I'm not spending a fortune on gas, tires, repairs, and cars in general. Plus I get 10 hours a week of free time I didn't have before. That's the real bonus.

But like others have said here, it all depends on your particular circumstances and your tolerance for long hours.

Yeah, but I didn't ask about your shitty, BS job and braggy, truth stretching investment situation. I don't give a shit.

The poll is Job 1 or Job 2 and anything else is a moot point. Make your own thread.

I think I work with assholes. I am shocked at the number of votes for #1. I think almost everyone I know would take #2.

I would probably be sad if my drive to work was only 5 min. Driving home from work is fun (as long as there aren't traffic jams and I can drive fast).

I picked #2. $66k is too much to leave on the table for ~10hrs more work per week. A little travel can be fun (not every week though). 35-45 minutes to work is tough though but it could be worse.

What would you do in your free time with Job #1 that you couldn't do with #2?

Could you have a hobby that makes some money on the side with job #1?

Could you move closer to where you would work for Job #2?

Single, married, kids?

What would you do with the higher monthly income from #2? Is it worth more to you than your time?
