All the news stations are calling it an "epic takedown". I cant stand the media....
Wait... a politician went into a hearing with a bias and lacked basic decorum? *clutches pearls*

I didn't see it...I admit I would like to turn her loose on you know who, but from what you describe, it sounds unpleasant. I get the hatred for corporate America, but how about corrupt US Senators and governors and what they get away with....

Mortgage below $25k? nice! I will check back in 29 years and 3 months to see if I suffer the same problem.

Interesting. I guess only the "famous" ones are getting rich, or came from money in the first place. I am surprised it is that low. I wonder what the median age is, but not enough to google it - apparently.

I used to work a temp job as a phone banker for Wells Fargo... Although it was the first time I had a job within 5 miles of me in a long time, this was probably the only time in my life where I was happy to be fired and had a bunch of personal life problems happen at once (have a former friend turn to drugs and harass me so late at night a roommate called the cops + wildly inconsiderate roommates who are up late playing drinking games or hogging the only shower when the guy doesn't have a job = getting so tired and devoid of sleep that I even got pulled over since the cop thought I was driving drunk)...

So, for a 4-week training in total and lasting a little over a week (8 days cumulative), only about 5 days were spent on computer operations, laws, regulations and procedures, and even then it was mostly "read the instructions and take a quiz, which may be repeated until you pass", and almost never "demonstrate and practice" unless the subject was on sales... But if you didn't finish it by a certain time, you got fired. However, as it happened so fast, there was no time to absorb it either; I walked away feeling like I learned nothing vital, and couldn't remember which federal regulation controlled which.

Also, any sales questions were happily answered at great length, while anything else is bluntly told "it's in the VL (virtual library), read the VL!" while their precious VL was poorly categorized and not cross-posted at all, so you have to look through 3 different pages to get the results you need, and it was quicker to guess and click around than to search, but they prefer for you to use the search function.

So, speaking of sales, what did the week after look like? You're just told to gradually transition from listening in, to assisted call taking, to monitored independent call taking. For the listening in part, you now get your own headphones and are listening in on reps and being told to take notes on how to make an upsell, sparring with other learners on how to sell new products, and memorizing "Mr. ______, while I have you on the line, I've noticed a product that would help you out greatly. Would you like to hear more details?".

Oh and your ratings. OH GOD your ratings... Your customer may be randomly offered to give a survey, or your call is randomly monitored. For that survey, you are rated on a scale of 0-5 for 4 questions, and you're given 4 points. only a 5 rating gives you a point; 0-4 counts as a fail, and you can be "coached" (read: written up) if you failed.

At the end of it all, despite usually being employed in IT and could figure out unfamiliar software relatively quickly, I still couldn't figure out how to operate the software in some instances, unless it pertained to sales... I can click the frickin' green icon like the pros all that falling asleep in class and missing key elements paid off!

Even worse? I bank with Citi, and I called for anything from what's my balance to handling questions about a certain charge to transferring money between accounts, and none of them even came close to upselling me... I even got curious and asked one phone banker, and they don't even have a sales obligation!
