oil choices for a hot climate
hi guys
this is not intended to start an oil war lol my question is two parts: i have 2014 f20 m135i with 30000miles(48000km) For a hot climate such as parts of south Africa (where Im from) I have been advised that a 5w40 would be better then running a 5w30 is this true? My car will soon be full bolt-ons without a stage 2 turbo and will see the odd track day maybe once or twice a year. secondly which of the following would you suggest (i can only run LL01 oil due to our high sulfur content in the fuel) or is there anything else recommend above these: Motul 8100 xcess 5w40 Motul 8100 xmax 0w40 Liqui moly leichtlauf high-tech 5w40 (with ceratec) Liqui moly molygen new generation 5w40 (can not be run with ceratec as is has its own unique additives built in) Mobil1 esp 0w40 |

I included a link to South Africa BMW site in my previous message. Well, I did notice they provided no (grade) details and still they must offer something for the cars they sell and service!
"In theory" 5w can be better in hot climate from being less appropriate in cold weather. But you simply shouldn't bother with the winter grade which is just irrelevant in hot climate. BMW's ///M oil I mentioned is 0w40 only(?). |

There are a couple of threads around you might want to look at: F20 M135i CrankShaft Stuck and Can't Start and CrankShaft Seizure Repaired for M135i. |
